		Rope Grippers & Brakes All newly installed and most altered electric traction elevators are required to have ascending car overspeed and unintended car movement protection, as defined in ASME A17.1-2000/4/7, Section 2.19.  The device required is referred to as an "emergency brake."
		Equipment Isolation A common problem which can become a very thorny issue is excessive elevator noise.  Often such noise is a result of vibrating equipment not properly isolated from the building structure.  Open this page for more information on and some suggestions on how to accomplish effective equipment isolation.
		Winding Drum Elevator Conversions A very common type of elevator system commonly installed at the end of the 19th century and the early years of the 20th century is the Winding Drum Elevator.  Manufactured and installed by many early elevator companies, including Otis Elevator Company, Van Emon Elevator Company and others, these systems are no longer typically installed in commercial applications.  They are, however, still a common hoisting method for single family residential elevators.
